Yorkshire West Indian Culturama Carnival Network is searching for a carnival queen to take part in the carnival show in Leeds on Friday 23rd August 2019. This special person will represent Yorkshire West Indian Culturama Carnival Network in the competition and take part in the Pop-Up Culturama events. Pop-Up Soca & Calypso Singing

The YWICCN popup Soca & Calypso singing project was conceived in the community when our portable PA system was used to encourage and engage passers-by to have a singalong or take the mic and sing their favourite Soca or Calypso tune. YWICCN have performed three of popup Soca & Calypso sessions. Having had positive feedback, we aim to use the medium to educate the general public about diversity via Eastern Caribbean traditional music.

Costume Making Workshops 2019

Our costume making workshops are a creative outlet for all our communities and are free of charge for everyone. Children accompanied by parents, teenagers and adults, are all welcome. A recent survey by YWICCN found carnival revelers feel the UK Carnival scene has lost it cultural taste. The cultural artistic survey carried out over the spring and summer highlighted that a majority of UK Carnivals were seen as a means to hustle people with a view to making a quick buck, watering down the beautiful culture of the Eastern Caribbean, rather than promoting it.
